OPTICS
Ø Optics is the branch
of physics that studies the behaviour and properties of light, including its
interactions with matter and the construction of instruments that use or detect
it.
Ø Optics usually
describes the behaviour of visible, ultraviolet, and infrared light.
SCATTERING
OF LIGHT :
Ø When
sunlight enters the Earth’s atmosphere, the atoms and molecules of different
gases present in the atmosphere refract the light in all possible directions.
This is called as ‘Scattering of light’.
Ø In this phenomenon,
the beam of light is redirected in all directions when it interacts with a
particle of medium.
Ø The
interacting particle of the medium is called as ‘scatterer’.
LENSES :
Ø A lens is
an optically transparent medium bounded by two spherical refracting surfaces or
one plane and one spherical surface.
